TV viewers were led to believe that Gilligan was a complete idiot but I think he was brilliant. At the end of each episode, Gilligan always did something to botch up the castaways chances at getting off the island. But Gilligan knew that if they were rescued he would never get a shot at Mary Ann or Ginger. If they stayed on the island, he only had to beat out the Skipper and the Professor. If they got off the island, Mary Ann would end up sleeping with a Kansas farmboy and Ginger would be the next Paris Hilton in Hollywood. Gilligan was brilliant because he increased his chances with the girls everytime he screwed things up.
